Whanake te Mahi

Are you 18-24, living in the Nelson / Richmond area? Looking for a job?

The market has got tougher in the last year. More people like you are chasing fewer jobs.

If you’ve been unemployed for a while, you might have noticed:

  • every unsuccessful application can knock your confidence

  • you rarely get good feedback about why you weren’t successful

  • you are struggling for positive stories to tell at interview

What if you had a team around you, to support you?

What if you could show what you’ve been doing to develop yourself?

What employers want most, for entry-level positions, is attitude and mindset - things like confidence and reliability - plus communication skills and team working.

How does Whanake Te Mahi work?

Over 8 weeks (9 hours a week), you’ll be given a range of opportunities specifically designed to help in your journey to work, including:

  • Challenging group activities, to build confidence

  • Learning and applying different job hunting strategies

  • Presenting yourself positively

  • Coaching to recognise your strengths, and help you focus on your goals

If you’re a jobseeker aged 18-24 and receiving the Job Seeker benefit speak with your case manager at MSD to check whether you’re eligible.

You might not need our help, if you:

  • know what you want

  • have good relevant experience and qualifications, and are

  • confident in the whole job hunting process.

Otherwise, it comes down to 3 questions:

  • Are you willing to challenge yourself?

  • Are you willing to support others in your team?

  • Do you have something you want to change?

If the answers are “yes”, let’s talk.
